A religious sect. The monks live in the Temple of Shansu. The Sage is the master of meditation, the leader.
The beliefs of the sect revolve around the Child Gods. They believe that if the child is killed in a re-birth ceremony before they reach maturity, they will be re-incarnated into the body of another child. The monks search for the new child god and bring the baby to the temple.
The child gods spend the rest of their lives in the temple, rarely leaving their individual shrines.
Two child gods, Hsui Tai and Kishnu, normally have their re-birth ceremony at the same time. After the last re-birth the monks only managed to find Hsui Tai, despite having the story being carried in newspapers around the world.

The ships are similar in fire-power and defensive capabilities to the Thargon Thickships.
They have one defensive flaw, they have no protection against nuclear missiles, and can be destroyed by a single missile. When the Sorsons gave the Americans some ships, the President ordered that they be fitted with nuclear missiles. Each ship carries at least two missiles.
